Before & After: Chris and Alyssa’s New Front Yard

before, house, landscape, yard, overgrown, front yard

When Chris and Alyssa closed on their house a few years ago, they were less than excited to be greeted by this jumble of overgrown shrubs and run of the mill river rock.  It made their new house feel unsightly and tired, and they couldn’t wait till it was gone! Choosing to venture down the DIY route, they were able to transform their yard into something they both love.

after, yard, front yard, mulch, border, transform, improve

And what a difference it made! Adding a border and replacing the drab river rocks with a bright mulch, along with swapping the disorderly shrubs for a variety of smaller plants, they created a yard that enhanced the facade of their house by a landslide. Alyssa noted that the project took them a lot longer than they had originally set out for [heh, I know how *that* goes….] but the extra time spent was well worth it. I’d love to see what it looks like now that a few years have passed! Nice job, guys!  -erin

Adopt a Hedgehog

Adopt a Hedgehog

When I was a new mom of a sweet baby girl — and we lived in England —  I had one of those new mom clothing obsessions.  I went all in on hedgehog inspired baby goods.   Adorable and seemingly so European (I told myself)….I loved the cute details that these small garden rodents brought…

Garden Gallery : Modular’s Mixed Materials

Sometimes a garden image just reaches out and grabs me….like this one.   I think it is the way the materials all play off each other to make the one next to it pop.  And the idea of a red deck — like a really red deck — not just a redwood water sealed deck —…

Verbascum ‘Gainsborough’ A Reason to try something new….

I spent a wonderful day yesterday in Margaret Roach’s garden along with a crowd of other interesting bloggers and associates of Margaret’s.  I am sure I am not alone in the feeling of inadequacy that I held as I left.  Here’s hoping that someday my garden might be as beautiful as hers. But after the…
