Before & After: Chris and Alyssa’s New Front Yard

before, house, landscape, yard, overgrown, front yard

When Chris and Alyssa closed on their house a few years ago, they were less than excited to be greeted by this jumble of overgrown shrubs and run of the mill river rock.  It made their new house feel unsightly and tired, and they couldn’t wait till it was gone! Choosing to venture down the DIY route, they were able to transform their yard into something they both love.

after, yard, front yard, mulch, border, transform, improve

And what a difference it made! Adding a border and replacing the drab river rocks with a bright mulch, along with swapping the disorderly shrubs for a variety of smaller plants, they created a yard that enhanced the facade of their house by a landslide. Alyssa noted that the project took them a lot longer than they had originally set out for [heh, I know how *that* goes….] but the extra time spent was well worth it. I’d love to see what it looks like now that a few years have passed! Nice job, guys!  -erin

Snippets: Winter Containers

Today I am excited to share Roanne Robbins’ first post in her new Studio ‘g’ series.  We are calling it Snippets and it will be all about container plantings and cut flowers. It’s January and here in New England we are just starting to get winter. December was unseasonably warm and even though in the…

Garden Gallery: Bogna’s Rustic Conifer Garden

Combine fall mist and a garden heavy on the evergreen interest and my heart goes pitter patter. I am a sucker for shades of green and texture, and if I can smell the fall air just by looking at a picture  then I know a garden is something special. I think this garden attractively shows…

Note about plants inspired by people from previous posts:I had a lot of fun with picking plants inspired by people…so I thought I would take inspiration from some of my favorite other bloggers and garden and landscape design luminaries’ home states.
