Before & After: Walking Through an Austin Landscape

before, dirt, bare, landscape, frontyard

I’m a sucker for any landscape project that includes the addition of a new path, so when I came across this yard out of Austin, Texas I knew it would be a good one. Evolving over the course of 2 summers, homeowner and blogger Cyndi K. created a serene retreat spanning across her entire front yard. After tearing out the grass along with other landscaping, Cyndi wasn’t left with much more than a yard of leveled dirt.

Once she had a clean slate to work with, she began to bring in plants, stone and mulch to flank her newly constructed path. She stained the fence a warm brown and added some elements for the neighborhood birds. Of course, there are plenty of other photos on her blog that you should check out- different angles and lots of before and after shots. Check it out if you have a moment. Nice job, Cyndi! -erin

Grass Sculpture

You know the trend…vertical gardens, grass images, green everything….well grassland is getting in on it with a line of cool grass products.  The orbs can be used to give interiors an earthy glam vibe, even after they die from such unnatural growing conditions, they paint them green and call them art.  It’s resourceful, I like…

Inspired By: Marsh Arabs and Zaha Hadid

I am preparing an article about Zaha Hadid and her influence on landscape design for the trade publication Landscape (based in the Middle East) (if you don’t know of her, she is a celebrated modern deconstructionist architect that was born in Baghdad). In reading about her over the weekend, I learned that she claims her…
