Translucent Lightweight Concrete

This took my breath away this morning.  Can you imagine the possibilities?  I found it over on The Pompomist.

Translucent concrete from Porjoel Sosa and Sergio Omar Galvan

It is made by Porjoel Sosa and Sergio Omar Galvan who are students at UAM in Mexico.  The material is 30% lighter but has the same strength, consistency and resistance as regular concrete, while allowing 80% light transmittance.  It comes in a variety of colors.

The inventors are patenting the product now, so hopefully it will be available soon.

If you speak Spanish, here is a you tube video about the product that you should check out…in fact it might be worthwhile to take a look even if you don’t (a picture speaks a thousand words in any language).  I love the black concrete they show in the video with the light behind it….so cool.

  1. The man in the video is neither of the two inventors.
If you do further research, you will realize that the true inventors are in their late twenties.
As well, I have seen translucent concrete and what comes out in the video looks like an imitation.

R.K. Alliston

When I lived in London, my flat was not too far from a store that I always found inspiring.  R.K. Alliston is inspiring for its amazing collection of very British home and mostly garden products.  Also, there are really great window displays and a great woman behind the whole thing.  R.K. Alliston ships worldwide, so…

Recycle Plastic Garden Waste into Crude Oil

I read today at Project Green Industry about as company called Agri-Plas Inc. who is converting unwanted agricultural plastics into crude oil and shipping it to a refinery for commercial processing. I am so proud to be part of an industry that is not satisfied to rest our our already green laurels, and is instead…

A Late Season Tomato Save

A Late Season Tomato Save

I confess my vegetable garden this year sucks.  I blame the book project….you just can’t do everything. Despite my negligence, I do have peppers, corn (I got in just one planting) and tomatoes (both from starts and volunteers) and basil.  Everything else has either been eaten by the woodchuck, was never planted, or  succumbed to…
