Mimosa- color of the year 2009!

December 8, 2008

I read this morning that Pantone, the “global authority on color,” has selected Mimosa as the color of the year for 2009.  What color is mimosa?  It’s an orange-hued yellow.  British Vogue  says that Mimosa “represents hope and optimism — buzzwords for the new year after a 2008 full of instability and upheaval,”.  Hmmm….maybe they are feeling my optimism too?

“The colour yellow exemplifies the warmth and nurturing quality of the sun, properties we as humans are naturally drawn to for reassurance,” Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, tells MARKETWATCH.COM. “Mimosa also speaks to enlightenment, as it is a hue that sparks imagination and innovation.”

Sounds interesting…Jumping on this bandwagon…here are some of my favorite color combos for “mimosa”.

How interesting! And here I (and about a billion other Indians) have been calling that colour ‘mango’! Or ‘turmeric’!
For us mimosa is a nasty weed with candy pink puff-ball flowers. I’ve never seen a yellow mimosa. Hmmm… I’ve got to look this up.
But can you imagine the scope for confusion? This is going to be an interesting year! : )

  2. SUSHIL says:

    MIMOSA! HAPPY 2009
