The Storm Before the Storm & NaBloPoMo

November 1, 2011

I love new beginnings.  The first of things always hold a special appeal to me.  Today, the First of November (1-11-11) is the first day of my renewed commitment to post daily and re-connect here.   I am using the NaBloPoMo (a daily blog writing cheer-leading group) to help me get myself jump started.  Last November I participated in NanNoWriMo (the Novel writing side of the same coin) and loved the experience, so, cheers to a new beginning!

Here we are — I personally am sitting my favorite cafe, which is even more beloved than usual because they have good food, heat, power and Internet access – things I do not currently have in my home office.   The October snow did it’s worst and we are re-living our 2008 Ice Storm nightmare.  Only thing that is better is that this time, we personally do not have a tree on our house and it didn’t take 2 days to clear the driveway – but the electrical line damage is the same.  I am already over winter….and it hasn’t even started.

There was however, a tame little ‘first of the season’ snow storm that came through two days prior to this snow-tastrophe — it was so pretty and charming…It had me all in the winter mood — I whipped out my camera and actually enjoyed taking all of these pictures.

I am hoping that as soon as the power, heat and running water return to my home, I will be able to re-capture some of the excitement of the changing seasons and  come back to this post and enjoy how nicely the snow transforms everything outside.   Dying plants become interesting frosty sculptures and the weeds between the cobblestones of the patio are suddenly vanquished and their remnants hold the snow to make perfect patterns of stone and white.

Happy November First!  I hope you are coping well if you too are without basic amenities — and if you are warm and with power — feel blessed.  See you tomorrow.
