Mathieu Lehanneur’s WiFi stations

November 12, 2012

Mathieu Lehanneur WiFi StationI’m looking for a new place to work.  My old beloved cafe recently closed and the new tenants are rather adamantly anti-WIFI.  It is a sentiment I find slightly outrageous if you want to make it in the neighborhood cafe category — it is enough to make me wish for the failure of this local business (did I say that? yes I did, I am already annoyed with them).   Am I being a pain in the butt who just misses her old hang out, or do we have a right to WiFi?

Keeping with my French inspiration for the day….what do you think of these WiFi stations by French designer Mathieu Lehanneur and sponsored by outdoor advertising company JCDecaux?  I don’t think I can get a delicous breakfast burrito and a coffee there, but I do like the idea of sitting in a bustling outdoor garden in Paris to get my work done.

Even here in my newly NORMAL-ized state, the right to universal WiFi comes somewhere below the rights to universal broadband and health care. However, you, being of the entrepeneurial bent, could conceivably whip together a seed pavilion, vegi stand and coffee shop with WiFi based in a food truck. I can just see going to the SBA for a loan with that as a business brief.
I wonder how long it will take for an enterprising individual to put together an espresso & Croque Monsieur (madame would require too much equipment) cart that could outrun le gendarmes. IMHO, Paris suffers from a shortage of food carts. No doubt the Surly Cafe Waiters Union has something to do with that.
Apologies, I may have had just one too many wee cups of coffee today.
