Before & After: Warren’s Taos Casita

3/18/2010

It’s a May to July transformation that inspires me for all the spring cleanups (and then some) that lay before me.   I have been so excited to share this entirely do-able but oh-so transforming change-up.  To me this is a truly great testament to what can be accomplished with some time and labor directed towards pruning, weeding, cleaning, mulching and some easy touch ups.

On a personal note….this makes me miss the wide open skies of the west….I literally look at these pictures and feel like I can breathe more easily.   I love the trees of new England, but this time of year is especially nice because, of all the seasons, this is the more spacious this region ever feels.  With the snow gone and leaves not yet emerged, you can see things you never know where there as they are obscured much of the year and there is a sense of openness that I really appreciate.

Are you inspired to get outside and start cleaning up?  I hacked back an unruly butterfly bush yesterday and I am anxiously waiting for a forsythia hedge to bloom so I can do the same to it.  Next Job – I have a mountain of wood chips to spread under the tree house and across the barn driveway…. my back will be aching at the end of that…but I will be happy to say goodbye to what we have endearingly named Mt. Progress.   It is one of the last remnants of the ice storm 18 months ago.  What are you doing this early spring to get a jump on your Spring to Summer makeover?

I know what you mean about feeling like you can breathe easier. I get that same feeling looking out at the ocean or on the prairies. I do like this garden. In fact, today I wondered we could create that same wooden edging with driftwood in our xeriscape garden.
