From Areaware:
“For people who multitask, this birdhouse multitasks too. As lighthearted as it seems, the design is a deliberate one. A bird’s diet consists of seeds and worms. As children, we gather worms for fishing by wiggling a shovel in the ground. With this birdhouse, the bird can wiggle his own worms out of the ground by simply landing on the house and letting the subsequent momentum do the work.”
I’m not sure I am ‘buying’ it, at least the part about the birds digging their own worms…but what I really want to see is what the squirrel does when he comes flying out of a nearby tree to hijack himself some grub and the shovel tips, flinging mud, squirrel, and birdseed into the air. That might actually be worth the $190.
I love the shovel birdhouse and if you are ever interested we are trying to get a birdhouse meme off the ground. What a wonderful addition this would make.
I am thinking it would take a rather large group of birds to maneuver the shovel house into digging up worms. Maybe a gigantic starling flock.
Thanks for joining our little birdhouse meme. I love the premise of this birdhouse shovel but but mostly I admire the genius behind the marketing strategy.
