It’s Murphy’s Law — with all hope lost for winter and on a tip from a friend, we went straight from the bus stop to Home Depot (which BTW is not my normal plant buying hangout). But, I had word that not only did they have plants (the first around here), but that they were cheap and that they were largely of the shrubby and fruity varieties.
The decision to install a family orchard was made over the winter, so we treated ourselves (the kids and me) to the fun of picking out five different fruit trees.
This was our haul…
…and for what amounts to somewhere between a 1.5 – 2 gal (but balled and burlaped) tree we paid 19.95 each. That is 5 fruit trees — and more fruit than we will ever be able to eat (the kids will have plenty of produce for that college fund farmers market booth!) – for a hundred bucks!! (think about that — some of these trees tout up to 70 lbs of fruit from a mature tree per year — that is some good economics….Cha- ching!
So — now because we gave in to our spring fever and went plant buying, it is snowing….there is even talk of a potential school cancellation tomorrow…. As I said — Murphy’s Law — I take all the blame for this evening and tomorrow’s winter madness – I just couldn’t help myself!
