Hey There! I’m Rochelle Greayer. I’m a garden designer on TV and IRL. I’m also an author and entrepreneur who thinks she can save the world by teaching everyone a little something about landscape design.

Bright Farms

Roof-top gardens and Farmers Market freshness — it’s my two worlds colliding!!  It’s not surprising, of course, to have the logical next step for rooftop gardens be that we begin to explore ways to make those gardens highly productive.  But I do think it revolutionary to take it to the level that BrightFarms does.

BrightFarms is a finance, development and management business that designs, finances, builds and operates hydroponic greenhouse farms at supermarkets, eliminating time, distance and cost from the food supply chain.

Mostly they like to install roof top farms on the roof of the grocery store.

And their next project, Sunset Park Farms, is coming to a Brooklyn neighborhood.  At 100,000 square feet this hydroponic garden will take over a the rooftop of a massive former navy warehouse.  It may become the largest rooftop farm in the US and is it slated to yield millions of pounds of produce a year — enough to supply annual fresh veg.  to 5000 New Yorkers.  Additionally it will use less water than soil based gardens and it will capture 1.8 million gallons of storm water.

Can’t wait for BrightFarms to come to a neighborhood near me.
