Sustainable Sites Initiative (LEED for Landscapes)

January 26, 2009

CONNECT:

I work at the intersection of design, horticulture, culture, and systems—helping people and institutions think clearly, act deliberately, and create lasting impact.

Although the comment period just ended, you can download a copy of the sustainable sites initiative here.

“Through the creation and implementation of clear and rigorous design, construction, operations, and maintenance criteria, the Initiative aims to supplement existing green building and landscape guidelines as well as to become a stand-alone tool for site sustainability.”

I am working my way through it it’s 180 pages now…it seems very strong on native gardens.   I am curious, has anyone used the draft guidelines and would like to share what they think?

“The Initiative envisions that sustainable land practices will enable natural and built systems to work together to protect and enhance the ability of landscapes to provide services such as climate regulation, clean air and water, and improved quality of life.”
