Did you see this over at Design Sponge last week? I have to say, I love a garden created by a girl like Karen. I am inspired by her to start digging my own pond (something I am perfectly capable of doing but never actually considered undertaking). Who needs a contractor (right)!! (or wrong!?!)
Karen who blog’s at the art of doing stuff made over her entire backyard by herself. The contractor that she hired made matters worse, so she decided to tackle the project on her own. She’s sharing the entire makeover saga on her blog. It’s an amusing tale, where she fully admits that perhaps it was all an idiotic move….but she still has my respect.
Would you like to share a before & after or garden makeover? Email me here with your images.

Hi. Thanks for the link! Yup. I still think doing my backyard was idiotic, but it’s something I’ll be able to brag about for the rest of my life so that’s worth something I guess. 🙂
And I’m not sure how this contractor rumour got started, but I never hired a contractor. A few years prior I had a fence rebuilt by a band of dumb-dumbs who made a mess of it and that’s when I decided to start doing things myself! Now I’m the dumb-dumb. – karen
Karen you make me laugh….being a person in the midst of installing a circular cobblestone patio in my own yard…after failing at building a stone wall at the front of my house last fall….I don’t give up easily….next up is a deck….but I am hiring a contractor for the steps….
good correction on the contractors….they are of course good at what they do and my favorite ones are those that make me feel completely incapable of creating what they can create so easily and beautifully….
Beautiful. I love how the chairs and the pond repeat the same dark squares. I love how the effect is formal, with the symmetrical seating, but the design is such that the plant growth doesn’t mess with the lines. A touch of red, a touch of round, just enhance the whole effect.
