Pruned has an excellent post about Pedreres de s’Hostal on the island of Minorca Spain. The site is a stone quarry that closed for use in 1994 but is now being transformed into a heritage park. It is an awe inspiring place and in the spirit of stonecutters’ tradition – orchards and vegetable gardens are being cultivated in the disused quarries and the whole place is being designed as an arboretum for native Minorcan plants.
The conversion has made it a popular tourist site, as well as a spectacular concert setting and special events location. For more information about visiting, check out the Líthica website.
