Let this post serve as a warning….I am suddenly having a little obsession with water gardens. Not the trickling little streams you might rig up with a pump — but real gardens that are on or in the water. My obsession started with the viewing of this beautiful mosaic by Love Stitching Red….
…coupled with learning (through Jim Charlier’s piece in Leaf Magazine) that the Amsterdam flower market is actually floating on a barge.
…also coupled with watching Mohamed Nasheed (former president of the Maldives) on the Daily Show last week talk about the Maldives and it’s threat of being over taken by rising oceans….and the international environmental NGO 350.org‘s campaign to do something about it.
So I am obsessed with the ideas that we might have to consider bodies of water as the next frontier for supporting life and grown things, I am obsessed with water plants having parallel characteristics to land plants and I am obsessed what kind of beauty might be created when we start creating floating gardens. More posts to come.
