Sometimes inspiration comes from the most unlikely places. After finishing the monstrous task of book writing, I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting and pondering about what is next. I recognize that I have changed over time and particularly this big project had a way of changing me.
I think it is time that Studio ‘g’ gets a bit of a rethink and my thoughts about what that might be, recently started to come together over some collections I gathered on eBay. (I have always loved eBay as a place to find the eclectic, unique and hard to source, and now with Collections you can shop your inspirations and passions).
The act of identifying Collections of things I am interested in helped me realize something. I can’t just continue to write about gardens – I need to expand and grow and broaden. I’ve done it for so long, I’ve poured my passion into a book and now it is time to find a way to make it fresh and meaningful again.
I found myself drawn to collecting snowboarding related items, which is reflected in Gliding Girl and is inspired by my love of riding. Gardening Girl plays around with tools I love and the idea that growing and gardening is hip and sexy and ought to be the next cool thing (if it isn’t already). And then there is Glamping Girl where I have gathered some of my favorite accoutrements for a comfortable and relaxing soiree in the great outdoors.
Things around here are going to become a little more lifestyle and reflective of the way I live (or hope to). I love gardens, and design, so that isn’t changing and I doubt I will ever stop finding inspiration and joy there, but I’m also passionate about adventure and travel, snowboarding (and I just took up rowing which is quickly turning into an obsession), the seasons, creativity, outdoor living, food, farmers, farmers markets, agriculture, science, beautiful things, and living a life that is full of simple pleasures but is most importantly full.
I’m going to try and weave this all together and if these types of things interest you too, I hope you will continue to join me along for the ride.
The ‘g’ in studio ‘g’ will still stand for gardens, green, and growing (and Greayer, of course) but there will be a few others like glamping, gliding, and maybe even a little bit of glitz (among other things). If you check out my eBay collections, you’ll get a bit of an idea about where I am headed.
What do you think? Have you ever gone through a time where you feel like you had to consciously shake things up? I’d love to hear about it.
Disclosure: My eBay Collections were curated as part of my collaboration with eBay and Style Coalition. #FOLLOWITFINDIT
Good luck with this, Rochelle. You’ll have a lot of formidable competition on that “lifestyle” wagon but I suspect you know that. All the best to you in this new direction.
Good luck Rochelle. I look forward to the new incarnation!
