Before & After: A New Backyard for an Urban Homestead

When I saw the “before” shot of this cozy backyard, I knew the transformation had to be good. I found the makeover on a blog called The Urban Self-Suffiicientist and the owner said that their main goal was to provide better drainage and give their dogs a place to run around without getting super muddy. So, in came a couple loads of gravel and soon it was spread across the entire backyard.

So, here is what the yard looks like now, $572 later along with a few hours of hard work. The cost covered a huge heap of gravel [including the delivery fee], timber to line the beds and a new birdhouse so their feathered friends could enjoy the new yard as well. The drainage issue is taken care of and the yard looks amazing! Here is another shot from a different angle:

urbanIt looks great, doesn’t it? Yeah- I thought so too. Anyway, you can check out more of the blog if you’d like, however- like many blogs- this one has fallen by the wayside and is no longer updated. But, it was a great job nonetheless. –erin
