I’ve been thinking about adding a few plants & stones to the corner of my yard, so finding this makeover was great timing. Scott mostly writes about technology & music on his blog, but google took me to this post from a few years back and I thought it would be a good fit for this week’s before & after. As you can see, the grass had already been scraped away for the “Before” photo, which left behind a perfect foundation to work with.
After planting a few shrubs, grasses & perennials, you can hardly tell that this is even the same yard! I love the stone path that winds its way through the garden to the iron bistro-style table & chairs and I especially like how the plants are grouped. I’m a big fan of grouping similar plants…it makes everything feel much more orderly and thought out, wouldn’t you say? What’s on your curb-appeal to do list this spring?

This is a great transformation, not only in appearance but also in function. It seems this intervention functions as a rain garden / bio-swale which reduces stormwater runoff from the property. Beautifully done!
