When Brittany from Life as the Mrs. noticed that her yard was in an unacceptable state of disarray, she couldn’t be bothered by it any more. So she did what I would love to be able to do sometimes and called a landscaper. Don’t get me wrong- I highly enjoy being out in my yard, but there are times when it would just be so nice to have something done! But anyway, click through to see what he came up with.
What would probably take me 3 days off took him just one day, and it looks great! The yard feels so calm and collected now, doesn’t it? I love how the trees have instantly become the new focal point- they all have such interesting forms and add a lot of character to the small backyard. Good call on hiring a landscaper, Brittany! It turned out beautifully. –erin

Thanks for this post! We are loving our backyard!
To be honest, the first picture looks like a cozy (although a little overgrown) faery garden with TONS of potential and lots of nooks and crannies to hide lots of flowery and viney surprises. The cobblestone pathway made it all the more inviting.
Picture two….. Your gardner stripped your space of all its character, sanitized it and made in into a Burger King drive-thru landscape, complete with rubber edging and car-safety high pruning.
Not trying to be insulting at all. But I used to run a small commercial full lawnscape co.

I have to agree with Barb. I would have put ferns, hostas and/or wildflowers mixed in with the flagstones
Thanks for your opinions, Barb and Anne! We love our backyard and enjoy a glass of wine back there weekly.
