Before & After: A New Front Yard in Seattle

November 13, 2014

111214beforeHey everyone! I hope you guys were able to finish up all your fall gardening this year! I wanted to plant some bulbs this fall but didn’t get around to it (again)….does anybody else have that issue? Anyway, I wanted to share a new Before & After with you, from one of my favorite landscape designers, Michael Muro. Michael works out of Seattle, Washington and he sent me this project a few weeks ago. What started out as a common, run-of-the-mill front yard was nicely transformed into a facade that is much more inviting.

111214By leveling the ground with the help of a beautiful stone wall, Michael was able to turn this front yard into a gorgeous space that appears to be much larger than before. I also really like the way he added visual interest by off-setting the steps leading down to the sidewalk- it  draws the eye across the space much more steadily than before. It’s amazing how much of an impact a simple re-route can make, isn’t it? Thank you so much for sharing, Michael! We look forward to seeing more of your projects in the future! -erin

Oh those yews and that ivy and that broken sidewalk! All were taken care of and the house looks absolutely stunning! I agree, the offset stairs and that walkway are very nice. I like the choice of hard-scape material used there with the large blocks. Replacing that small lawn with that steep slope was also a great idea. I remember growing up and mowing ours which was really similar, with an un-motorized push mower thing. Not that tough as the lawn was tiny but it was irritating!

I gasped when I saw this house on your blog because my grandmother lived right down the street from this house- I recognized it instantly. The house itself used to be a different color and such but I can still tell where this is and what house this is.

Great before and after, thank you for sharing!

I really like the retaining wall. The before and after pictures are key to see what was done. Definitely prefer the picture with the hardscaping in it

  4. Suki says:

Stone wall is nice, but the planting material is pretty boring. So much green. Would like to see more pops of color.
