Plants on the Wall – Edina Todoki’s Vertical Garden Art

October 15, 2024

Edina Todoki is creating some inspiring and unique versions of vertical gardens. The portrait succulent living wall is an installation on a roof garden in Brooklyn.

A piece of wall art by Edina Todoki on a beige brick wall features horizontal slats with green foliage peeking through, forming an abstract pattern, reminiscent of Vertical Garden Art.
A portrait in plants – made with slats of wood, this image emerges from shadows – where sedum emerges through the facade to make a striking and surprising vertical garden image.

Close-up of green succulents thriving between the slats of a white horizontal wooden fence. The lush plants evoke Vertical Garden Art, creating a striking contrast with the painted wood.
Sedum planted between wooden slats brings the textural two-tone garden portrait to life.

Her previous installations around Brooklyn are various moss images on the walls of buildings, construction sites and even in the subway.

Green succulent plants protrude through the gaps of a white, wavy wooden panel, reminiscent of Edina Todoki's art. The surface appears wet, with droplets visible on the wood and plants, giving a fresh, vibrant look to this vertical garden scene.

My favorite is this piece titled Wildboard, which featured grass.  The planting are very inspiring, Edina even provides a pictorial demonstration of her process from making the stencil to mixing the moss in a blender in her kitchen sink.  I am unsure how long these last – I suppose it depends on the weather.  Do you think this idea could be incorporated into residential garden design?  Hmmmm….it has me thinking….

A wooden panel art piece by Edina Todoki showcases a silhouette of a red panda crafted with moss. Above it, delicate black line drawings of tall flowers and leaves add elegance. Displayed outdoors, this exquisite vertical garden art complements the fence and grassy area in the background.
