I am working hard on final edits for Leaf (it’s going to be a long night, but we will be live tomorrow!) and I started thinking about this video series.
The more I do this, the more I realize that making a beautiful magazine is really so much like the handmade stories that these videos feature (at least as far as I am concerned – Leaf is as close to handmade as an online magazine can get). The other reason I thought to share this series with you is because one of the other episodes is about a distiller…and one of the shots is extremely similar to a shot in tomorrow’s issue of Leaf. The story is about Corn Whisky (aka moonshine) and how politics have played such a big part of this industry. Most recently because of the realtive inability for distillers to find large quantities of non-GMO corn. Super interesting.

Anyway – this is what is on my mind as I toil away – I can’t wait to share Leaf – Autumn 2012 – our #1 Year Anniversary issue with you tomorrow.

A project from bureau of common goods, Made by Hand is a new short film series celebrating the people who make things by hand—sustainably, locally, and with a love for their craft.

Local farmer Megan Paska has witnessed beekeeping as it morphed from an illegal (and possibly crazy) habit to a sustainable, community-supported skill. Mirroring beekeeping’s own ascendance, she found more than just a living: “This is the first time in my life when I’ve just felt absolutely on the right path.”
