La Formentera is the woodland refuge of interior designer Juan Montoya. Located about an hour north of New York City in the Hudson River valley, it is named for the similarly rocky Spanish Island. Montoya tells the story of how he discovered the place and decided to make it into his creative retreat in this video. It is worth a watching for an even better glimpse of the garden than these pictures. I am in love with the zig zag hand laid rock path, the series of stone monoliths in varied shapes and the encouraged fields of moss. Even the design at the bottom of the pool could convince me that a pool is worth the cost and trouble – If only I could enjoy that beautiful color and pattern.
The whole property, including the richly decorated interiors are featured in a wonderful online magazine that I just discovered called AARB. If you love warm interiors filled with books and beautiful furniture and texture make sure you check out the full post at AARB.
