My Daughter’s Birthday is next week, so she is on the look out for birthday packages arriving in the mail. So when an unexpected packet arrived in the mail last week – from Australia – she assumed it was for her….but as it turned out, I was the lucky girl. A few months back I introduced you to Brendan Moar, the Australian garden designer and star of the garden design makeover show called Dry Spell Gardens. I had not, at the time, actually seen the show, only heard about it and his fame. Since that post, the lovely Brendan sent me a copy of Season 2 of Dry Spell Gardens. (thank you so much!!) I haven’t watched all of them yet, but the first few are really quite good.
Through Dry Spell Gardens, Brendan is filling my head with all sorts of green ideas, products and solutions – in fact I am working on a number of posts inspired by his gardens. Now that I have seen the show, I can speak with some authority about the need for a show like this here in the US. The gardens that Brendan creates in the arid Australian climate are beautiful and appropriate for the surrounding landscape and available resources. We have so many lessons that need to be learned about stylish green gardening and design, water conservation, the use of recycled and on site materials, and plants that are appropriate for the conditions.
So what is the point of this post? – First to thank Brendan for his show and for sending me a copy (Thank you Brendan), Second to once again encourage the powers that be at some network , to pick up this show (puh-lease already), and Third to share with you a few more pictures of Brendan and his great designs.
Oh and one more thing…..Brendan also has a book called Grounded that looks interesting….but don’t buy it from US Amazon.com….it is ridiculously priced there….google around, you can find it cheaper than 75$ — Brit based Amazon.co.uk will cost you less than 30$ even with shipping. I love the tagline of the book —
“New and original ways to create a garden that says something about who you are, where you are and how you want to live.” – yes, yes, yes…..
Loving these posts by the way – keep them coming! Thanks for this one especially – you have introduced me to a new inspirational designer!
It WAS your lucky day! And ours, for your sharing of the gift. Will keep a look out for the book and possible utubes??of show.
Thanks, Rochelle.
Loved it in your other post. Love it now.
I want to see the show too….
Looks so good. I love his designs.
How can I get a Brendon Moar design in my very tiny townhouse garden. I understand how very busy you would be but if I could only get you to design it I would do the rest, just that much would be fantastic. There is not another Brendon Moar and I want to use the space to create our own small but interesting piece of paradise as this is our forever place.
Thank you for your talents, I am in awe of what you do.
