I found this makeover the other morning over at a website called Wood & Bones. The homeowners were seeking more shade for their sunny backyard but knew that it could take years if they planted a tree and relied on its future canopy. So instead of waiting, Bill decided to build a new pergola as a corridor for their new pathway.
He replaced the crooked brick walkway with concrete blocks that he’ll eventually bevel so their edges sit more flush with the surrounding gravel. The pergola was built and then stained and he installed some nice ambient overhead lighting. I think this is a great solution for a small yard and I really like the containers scattered throughout. I’m hoping to do something similar near our fire pit this summer….we’ll see if it happens. –erin
