Last week, my team and I planted up the fall planting in downtown Worcester.  We put in about 900 seasonal plants throughout the property all in one day (Whew).  Emily took these great pictures the day after.  Everything looks so great, and it isn’t even in full color yet as many of the mums (including dark and light purple, yellow, and red) are still tightly closed.  Emily is going to head back and snap off a few more pics that, hopefully, I can share when they are all a bit more open.

These lovely beds (that we call the wavy beds) are also waiting to fully burst into full color.  Besides the red and yellow that you can barely see, there is lavender, and the stuff that stays are the astilbe, hosta, pierus, and coleus.  These are over on Foster Street – you can check them out on the way to an event at the DCU center.

This will be a lovely mix of yellow (closed up still) with the red mums and purple kale.

Burgundy mums, and purple cabbage are great in massas a fall planting around the locust trees.

This is usually my favorite area every fall.  I love planting the bases of these fourteen locust trees with yellow mums for a very cheery all-yellow effect.  They aren’t out yet….but just wait — and the side planters the whole way down this courtyard (20 of them) are all oranges (orange osteospermum, orange celosia, and orange mums, with pennesetum hamlin)– so pretty.  We will try to show you that in the update.

City Square Worcester is a vibrant public space in downtown Worcester, Massachusetts, known for its beautiful architecture and historic landmarks. Visitors can explore the area’s shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions, including the Worcester Common Oval and the historic Mechanics Hall.

Happy Fall!! — The colors are starting to change here. I think the beauty of New England will be in full swing by next weekend if you plan a leaf-peeping visit!

  1. Sprout says:

Was Emily watering in the courtyard the other day? I had a delivery and should have introduced myself, but I was at a meter a long walk away!

Your kale rocks! Huge and cool and I love the lacey one!!! Orange osteospermum sounds good too!

How do you think the trees on Foster St. will fare with a summer and fall of heavy equipment mashing things up over there?

  2. louise garwood says:

The massing is most effective! Seas of color and form celebrating fall season! Nice!

  3. Layanee says:

I will have to do a ‘drive by’. I am fairly close to Worcester and love seeing the older buildings with the new. It is a small city with character. Nice plantings.

  4. Katie Stephenson says:

These are absolutely stunning. Nice work!!
