Inspiration from a Cider Can

March 5, 2012

Tempt Cider, a Danish brand designed by DDB Denmark, is so interesting…. I just discovered it and while I am completely smitten with the first glance design….I am even more intrigued as I scratch the surface.

If I find these on the convenience store shelf somewhere, I am quite sure the bottle will be something I will have a hard time throwing away.

From the designer’s, Fie Lindholm’s, website:

“The concept is build on the [idea] that cider keeps a secret. You can not smell or taste it but cider is an alcohol. You get tempted by the innocent look, the fruity smell and the refreshing taste. You are too curious to avoid a sip and suddenly it’s you that have a secret. Therefore the cider got the name Tempt.”

“The design is characterised by the innocent look at the first glance but by looking closer you will find small secrets and hidden details.

The key hole at the back of the bottle hides a link and the line “I have a secret” that will tempt people’s curiosity and lead them to the website where they can post their own and discover other peoples secrets.”

What strikes me most (besides the fantastic design of these beverage containers) is that if I were to take the designer’s words and pretend that I was designing a garden or outdoor space, I would strive and want to achieve the very same things.   Every garden needs to Tempt….with little secrets, that you can only discover on closer inspection…. and there certainly needs to be something that you can only discover if you look through a little key hole!
