Trend Week: The XL Trend

1/05/2010

According to European trend watcher Aafje Nijman, there is a feeling that as gardens continue to grow in popularity and indoor-outdoor living continues to evolve, we will see greater use of flooring materials that can not only be used indoors but outdoors as well in order to create a continuous space.

large scale pavers

This trend will be driven by a desire for an open inside outside effect. Floors that have a large scale to them with things like super sized pavers or more simply, poured concrete will increase in popularity. Do you see this as a trend in your design style?

Have to say I really don’t like the look of large super sized poured concrete pavers. I thought we were supposed to be thinking “permeable” these days, to allow water to soak into the ground and stop flooding problems. So I’m hoping this isn’t a trend.
