An Amorphophallus just in time for Valentines Day?

New York Botaincal gArden blooming corpse flower siberian giant amorphophallus

Could it be so well timed?  The New York Botanical Garden uploaded this picture on Flickr yesterday.  I am wondering…is it recent?  It is a corpse flower (so called for it’s smell), latin name is Amorphophallus gigas (Giant Sumatrian Amorphophallus).  (I love it when Latin sounds a little naughty) Is their’s about to bloom? (a rare occurrence).  How apropos, just in time for valentines day.  If you live nearby, it would be worth checking out….
